Section 1 of Hadrians Cycleway - What's it like???

I am planning to cycle the whole of the Hadrian's wall cycleway but I have been told that the first section from Ravenglass to Silloth goes through some "rough" areas and that I shouldn't linger!

Is this the reason that there doesn't seem to be any companies catering for people cycling this section?

Is there anyone out there who has cycled the whole route who can clarify the situation? Cycling Hadrians wall is my one and only holiday this year so I don't want to get it wrong.

Thanks
KiwiJo

Thousands of cyclists have ridden this route without problems apart from the usual punctures etc.

Parts of the Ravenglass to Silloth section are not officially completed but still rideable. Apart from passing through Whitehaven and Workington nearly all this section is rural.

The section that the person who advised you about is common with the C2C route in Whitehaven and tens of thousands have ridden that OK.

For full information see the Hadrian's Cycleway website at

I remember cycling from Carlisle to St.Bees via Workington and Whitehaven and everything was fine. I got lost around Distington and I asked a cider-drinking gang of lads where the cycle-path is, there kindly pointed me in the right direction. A bit of nerve-racking moment, nevertheless it is a nice section to cycle.

Hi,
I'm a Sustrans Ranger on the 1st part of the route, if you have any lingering doubts then time allowing I will happily act as your guide through the first 20 miles or so, after that it is all rural, as previously mentioned you would be very unlikely to have any problem other than punctures or bike malfunctions.
Enjoy your holiday Rob.
