Trailer,two wheels or one?

Postby johnonthetyne on Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:32 pm

Am going to byy a trailer for touring ,what i need to know is would a 2 wheeled trailer be better as the weight would be taken by the axle or a single wheeled trailer such as the yak?any ideas and advice welcome.

What is the trailer for, john. Lager & Pork Pies, only joking.

When I was cycling with Mick F the other day, he had the Y-Frame by Carryfreedom. That one has 2 wheels, size small with 16" wheels, the larger size is 20" wheels. Well designed and easy to hitch on & off, also wheels detach with ease. Sure Mick F will give a better idea to this one, I have seen the single wheel type such as the Bob Yak.

If I was going to buy one, I would buy the Y-Frame for cycle-camping.

I think the Y-Frame is a decent price, due to the design and high workmanship. Don't forget it is a aluminium frame, high quality wood base, stainless steel hitch and the tyres are Schwalbe's. So for £170, you pay for what you get.

This trailer would last a life-time, I paid £90 for a pair of Ortlieb Back-Packer Classic panniers last year, dear it may be. But well worth the money just to keep the rain out and again would last for years.

I think if you enjoy your cycling and get a lot of pleasure out of it, then the best is good enough for the price paid.

I won't know about that  But you can get cheaper trailers on the market, but would be nowhere as good as the Y-Frame. Well that's my view

Northumberland, some excellant cycling around there. Last time I was up there was in August 1987, based in Wooler Youth Hostel on me birthday week. Went all over and one of the best holiday's I've had, and not forgetting the Pennine Cycle Way (North) in June 2004.

I think I might go back up next year for a week, either camping or Wooler Youth Hostel.
