Stanhope to Sunderland on good tarmac

Attempting a sub 8hr C2C in August on road bikes. Is there an 'official' tarmac version from Stanhope? I take it the off road from Stanhope onwards is not worth bothering with at all. Absolutely has to be all good tarmac all the way.
