Hi,

Have today bought my train ticket to Newcastle for the 25th September to do the Coast & Castles route over 5 days, last year i did the C2C on my own over 2 and half days doing B&B, however this year have decided to camp on route so will be fully laiden on my old heavy Kona and would welcome any advice from others who have done this route.

I have studied the Sustrans map for camp sites and the only problem is on my first day the first camp site is in Ashington some 32 miles away from Newcastle which is not ideal as i wont get to Newcastle till early afternoon.
Got a great advance single rail ticket, Birmingham to Newcastle only £11

Regards,

Martyn.....
P.S. Any others planning on going similar time ?

Hi,

Thanks for quick response, The area is new to me so i would welcome any advise.
My train arrives in Newcastle 13.33 on Thursday 25th Sept so by the time i have loaded up my panniers etc it will be at least 2pm before i set off (assuming no train delays). I have studied the Coast & Castles map and the first camp site on the route is in Ashington at 32 miles unless anybody knows different.
My second day stopover is planned at Seahouses at 72 miles into the route so if anybody who knows the area can suggest alternatives please let me know.
The map follows from Newcatle the river to Whitley Bay, through Blyth, North Seaton and on through Lynemouth.
I don't think i can cycle too far on the first day due to the late start and the heavy load i will be carrying,

Regards,

Martyn.........

There is a caravan & campsite in Ashington by the name of Wansbeck Riverside. There is some good reviews to this site, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2171should be ok. Although I have never done Coast & Castles, I would love to do it some time.

For camping near Seahouses, try Beadnell. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6742

Hi,

Thanks for reply,

Those two sites you mention are the one's i have already highlighted on my Sustrans map, it seems the first one is in need of a toilet block update as per several website comments but otherwise gets good reviews, i will probably arrive late and only need to cook some food/shower/have a cool beer (not necessary in that order) and get my head down for the night so as long as it's somewhere safe to leave my bike it will do for one night,

Thanks again,

Martyn.......
