Thought I will start the ball rolling on this one.
The White Rose Cycle Route is 123 mile bike ride from Hull to Middlesbrough, opened by John Prescott in April 1999.
Although, it's not a strenuous ride unlike the C2C. It does make a good 1st time cycle ride for the beginner, family or the casual cycle tourer.
The route begins in Kingston upon Hull, at the Hub Point of the NCN. From here the route go's South of Hull to Hessle. here you will see the Humber Bridge and route 1 comes in from Harwich to Hull, that will continue up to Beverley, Driffield, Bridlington and up the North Yorkshire Coast to Scotland and onto John O' Groats.
From Hessle, you have two choices of route, either Route 65 to York via Selby or Route 66 to York via Market Weighton. Although I've done both routes, I think the Selby route is the better of the two.
From York, the route passes through Easingwold, a lovely Yorkshire town. Here you have again 2 choices, either take the easy link to Thirsk and back to the White Rose via Kirkby Knowe or the hard route to tackle the ascent to Sutton bank top near the famous White Horse (good views of the Yorkshire Dales & the Pennines)
However there is another 2 choices of route from Kilburn, either go left to Chequers via Siltons or right via Hawnby. Both routes are good cycling.
Then after Chequers, you pass the villages of Swainby, Hutton Rudby, Hilton, Maltby and onto Middlesborough.
This is one cycle route I recommend and one I may be doing later in the year, as part of the Seaside Run.
