still not able to ride yet and sunday (if i was off work)would be a major ride day.so ,,what to do?ive cut the grass,even fixed tumble dryer and my bikes are shinning like new,(well one of em is )how do other folks fill in there time?i hear people say theyve never got enough spare time , well i must be doin sommick right cos alway got time to watch sky tv.

Hi John,

What have we done today?
Shopping.
Before that? a bit of decorating the lounge.
Before that? Slap-up breakfast.
Before that? 3 cups of tea!


After all that? Down the pub!
After that? Roast lamb and stuff and bottle of red.
After that? Slobbing in front of the telly with a laptop on my lap.


Sundays are gentle days.

I ride out during the week. I'm at a lucky stage in my life, retired early with the ability to do what I want when I want to do it. Notwithstanding normal domestic life!

Been out today buying bits of snacks to take with me on my Grand Tour. I leave on the 17th on the train to Edinburgh. From there I cycle to Inverness via Pitlochry and then to W Scotland, making my way south via Skye and Kintyre to Arran and back to the mainland.

From there I make my way over to Whitby, and on the way meet Agileman at Grinton YHA. He will ride with me (and navigate!!!)

Then it's over the N York Moors and into Lancs, down to Wales and Snowdonia, then Brecon Beacons, over the Severn Bridge, Bristol, Cheddar and home.

I heard the other day that my YHA stop in Street YHA has been cancelled. They have problems with their fire alarms, so I've had to shift my booking to Cheddar YHA. Trouble is, it's 107 miles back home from there!

Oh well.

Hi John, (how many avatars have you got!!)

I have Ruby Flambouyant Mercian Vincitore 531c. Made for me in 1986. The components have had many a face-lift over the years, but I'm with Campag Chorus almost throughout at the mo. Triple 53/42/30 with a 10sp 13-29.

The frame was refurbished last December for it's 21st birthday.

I use a Carry Freedom Y Frame trailer with a bright orange suitcase fixed on the load-bed. Can't miss me!

I'm enjoying looking at your blog, great stuff. Great days days before the internet, email, mobile phone and how on earth did we survive then. I'm been cycling touring now for the last 28 years and how hi-tech has changed.

I emailed Grinton Lodge and a nice message was waiting for me when I arrived from work, although there have pushed up the price, due to half-term week. years ago, it was fixed thru-out the year. Sounds likes I'm sounding like a old Mr. Grumby, don't worry youngsters, your time will come. My last laugh is I will be retired at 65 and not 75.
