I'm doing the C2C in June. Only thing i'm a bit worried about is the hillwork Living in East Yorks it's very flat & can do a 50 mile ride without encountering any serious hills.
Any tips on how to prepare for all the hills on the C2C, apart from using my granny ring ?

I live in Stockton on Tees and is called the Cleveland Plain or recently The Tees Valley and is flat. The nearest real hills are on the North Yorkshire Moors, but I don't have a car. So I'm talking of a 50 mile round trip before encountering any real hills.
There is exercises for building up leg muscles such as the thigh and calf, there was a coverage in the Cycling Plus mag recently. The C2C is not a killer and it's only Whinlatter, Hartside and Black Hill to worry about.
50 miles is very good and I would work on that, I cover 50 miles a week going to work and back. Even a small incline would be better than nowt, do you have memory map.

I'll try the big ring for a ride & see how i go.
Don't have memory map, just have to rely on the old grey matter or printed maps
I might try a ride upto Scarborough, i know there's a few hills on the main road up from Brid, but not keen on cycling main roads

I live in York where it is flat but don't have to ride far to get among the hills.
Where abouts in the east riding are you as there are some great training hills round Millington, Bishop Wilton and Thixendale areas.
Good Luck with your C2C I've done it 7 times now and will be doing it twice again this year once maybe on 1st June on my cyclocross bike solo in the day and on August Bank holiday over three days with 2 friends which is a bit like a long pub crawl as we all love Jennings Sneck Lifter beer which we don't see much of round here.
