disco said well, if you base petrol on £1 per litre, (£4.50per gallon, and 35 miles to the gallon, or 12-13p per mile
lets know where you get petrol from at that price?

Thanks, I knew being a boy scout would prove useful at some point! As I said we took about 1/2 that & we had a van to store things so we tried to be self sufficient. I really enjoyed the link you put up, it brought back memories......... we had knee trouble & lost 1/2 a day in Tiverton Hospital trying to get extra elastic bandages. Apart from the obvious saddle soreness the rough roads made it tough on hands & feet even with decent shoes & gloves, I noticed Scotland got a mention for this but it wasnt alone. We had a spare wheel so would have been OK in the same circumstances, we also rode very similar bikes so that spares would transfer.

petrol is anyway from 99.9p - 101.9p a litre, total rip off, 4.5l - gallon, hence £4.50per gallon?

Just a thought |
but if were getting a support van anyway? cant the van take the bikes? |
| In a round Robin, I reckon £300 is a fair price to pay.

might have been when you went to school, but that was many years ago my dear friend!
1 gallon [UK] = 4.546 09 litre. Do the conversion yourself if you dont believe me
http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm
From my house, upto JOG, down to LE, then back to North East, give or take a dozen miles is 1721miles @ 13p per mile = £224 in petrol, so even 25% onto of that bring it to £280 roughly, so £300 was/is a good estimate. 15per mile gives us a total of £325.00 for 1721miles
Seaburn Hire are charging £165 unlimited mileage for 7 days (we will need it for max 4 weeks @ £660). Not the only option, i'm sure, but an initital one all the same!
UKVanRental - £631 inc unlimited mileage (25 days hire)
Enterprise - £583 (21 days)
