Cycling Workington-Keswick

Postby durhamwasp on Wed Jul 29, 2009 5:13 pm

Hi Guys,

5 of us are cycling C2C in a few weekends, all on roadbikes, so we think that most of the official C2C route path may not be the right terrain or quick enough for us.

Does anybody know or can suggest a good route on roads between these places, and indeed does the A66 have a cycle path (or wide red path) running alongside?

Also, after our first night in Keswick (in a campervan whos driving along with us) we'll spend night 2 in Alston. Does anyone know of a pub with Sky Sports there or close by?

Thanks a lot for your help!

If you're only going to Keswick you've got pretty much all day. Going along the A66 will probably take 2 hrs, there is no cycle path along it between workington/Keswick but plenty do cycle along the gutter.

The official route keeps you away from most of the traffic but there is one part you'll have to walk if you're on road bikes.
