I'm going to need it, still with 28 years of cycle-touring under me belt. I do like a good challenge, the best bit's of Wheelwright's I seem to remember is trying climb Black Sail Pass with the bike on my shoulders and pouring down with rain. Boy, was I was glad to see the pub in Wasdale.

Also rain caused the River Duddon to rise so much, that the water was a foot above the stepping stone's. Hanging on for dear life using the cable that spanned the river. Good fun.

The bit across the Yorkshire Moors, so muddy with clay. That when it dried on my legs, I was chipping it off with the pump.

Happy Days.

Hi Suziec

Thank you for the offer of joining you guys for the c2c ride; I bit the bullet have now booked accommodation in Penrith and Allen heads so I'm committed...

I've still got loads to sort out regarding parking, how to get back to the starting point etc but have got a concrete foundation to work from... However; my main issue at the moment is, roughly... pending head winds, punctures (Not that I plan to have one) etc would we arrive at our detonation... If it's going to be very late afternoon/ early evening then I may look in to booking B&B although I do have friends in Durham so may be able to crash with them

I'm planning on doing it on a road bike; is this advisable or mountain bike best suited?

Thanks in advance for any advice given :D

we are using mtb as we did last year.
also last year we only got 1 puncture between 3 of us but that means nothing.
last time we arrived in sunderland at 15.30ish.
why not travel up by train to the start then back home by train that way you wont need to worry about going back to pick car up.
also we are staying at whitehaven on the thur night to get an early start friday around 09.00.

SuzieC / Smudge

Depending on the weekend, I may be able to offer assistance in the way of a support driver (myself), but this would also depend on whether Smudge was
a) insured for all drivers
b) willing to let me drive his car
c) if the missus would let me out

A support vehicle would make it easier for the whole group, but as this would mean i would be able to carry all bags etc etc and supplies, meeting you at arranged points throught the C2C (this is what we did last year)

Tbh, it would be a great help to the group, as we found out last year, and would save each rider carrying extras using panniers etc etc

As for maps, (smudge), i can send you these 2morra (and even forward you over the plans we used last year - drop me ya email address) You'll them very interesting, and theres also my c2c log or you to read

Hi Dave

I have sent you a PM so take a look and if you can answer all questions I have asked you, it would be great
Ignore the one about Insurance though; think what you mentioned on this post has answered it :-)

I've PM'd Smudge back, but in the meantime, just a ? for SuzieC

Are you letting Smudge join your group, and what are you doing about a support vechile to carry stuff etc? If you dont have one yet, speak to Smudge as I've offered a solution to his car problem, if you were to chip in a couple quid for one nights BnB costs and a couple for petrol.

That way i can act a support driver, should you agree this is a good idea!

PS: I've also got a stock of supplies from last year should anyone need a intertube, spare tyre etc etc

hi Disco,
firstly yes we are letting smudge join our group.
secondly we weren't planning of having a support vehicle as when my 2 sons and i done it last year we didn't use one.
i think its a great idea but will speak to the rest of the group first to confirm.
