C2C

Postby Smudge on Mon Dec 31, 2007 4:39 pm

Hi everyone

I'm at the early stages off planning my 1st C2C ride around mid 2008; although at one stage I was considering cycling this route at Easter.

I was put off cycling at Easter due to it being early in the coming year and thought it would be risky with the weather etc...

I may change my mind; will I be to late in booking B&B's and for people who have already completed this route, I'm not concerned about the distance, its the route itself... is it straight forward and well sigh posted, I just haven't got around to buying any maps yet

Hi Smudge..

I myself am looking to doing this as well. BnBs shouldn't be a prob if you book, say mid feb, but avoid easter weekend.

I have maps etc I can send over, althou you'll need to check with Denny who is doing the route first as i promised him he could lend them too

Smudge... The C2C is straight forward, just the Urban build-up areas can be tricky. Sometimes local libaries have a copy in the local reference section. Have a look on the C2C web-site for tips and advice. http://www.c2c-guide.co.uk/urbanareas.htm

Easter is 21st/24th March, every Tom, Dick & Harry will be out doing a burn-up.

Remember April this year and it was very good and June was a wash-out. Nobody can predict the weather in Spring, let alone the Summer. If you do the C2C in March/April, take your knobbie tyres.

May is a good month for C2C, that's when I will doing mine. (Date TBA)

I'll be walking the Coast to Coast from Kirkby Stephen to Robin Hood's Bay in April, so might have some snow up on the Nine Standards.

Hi Disco

You still considering the c2c around June time? I'm in a position where I can almost go at a drop off a hat... as long as accommodation is available...

I'm guess one good advantage going at Easter; if I leave late morning then I can follow a group at the start and keep catching other groups in front off me which will reduce my time off stopping every 1/2 hour looking at maps... there just be a continuous line off cyclist making their way along the c2c cycle way.

Now there’s a thought :-)
