Bike Bags on Trains

Postby Rob on Thu Jan 29, 2009 11:51 am

Hi,

Does anyone have experience of carrying bikes in bags on trains? I need to get from one end of the country to the other with my bike on a train & have heard horror stories of people with reservations being turned away because the train already had its quota of bikes, it also seems to be hit & miss about booking a train, cross country trains recommend you do it at a manned station, this will mean a long drive & possibly still no guarantee.
As an alternative I was thinking of putting my bike in a bike bag & carrying it on the train, has anyone done this or heard of it being OK? I can’t afford not to be allowed on the train as all my travel plans will fall over.
Thanks in advance.
