Bike Advice for a Lady

Postby CHIZU on Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:50 pm

Hello everyone,

I have been having a really good look at the C2C info, I am hoping to work up to tacking this!

Last year I got a 2nd hand mountain bike to take up cycling and have used this a bit around town and on canal paths. Having really enjoyed this I feel I need to upgrade the bike to improve the enjoyment!

Since most of the riding I do is on tracks or road I am thinking I need a hybrid.. I have seen this bike http://www.nationalcycles.co.uk/giant-c ... -2008.html locally for under £200.

Do people think this is a good deal and would be fine for C2C or should I be upping my budget? I don't want to find myself wanting to upgrade again in a years time.

I am only 5'2" so need a bike that comes in small frame sizes! I was looking at the Dawes discovery, but the one with front suspension doesn't come smaller than 18".

Help/ advice please?

Cheers!

I'd describe that as more of an urban utility bike than a hybrid. The gearing looks OK but not quite the low gears for hill climbing you get with an mtb. I'd be concerned about the lack of a rack (check if it has mounting points) and the tyres (kenda) are not great. I wouldn't think it would be an ideal C2C bike, but of course people have used all sorts.

Have a look at Edinburgh bike co-op. They do some really good value bikes at that sort of price bracket and will be helpful in helping you choose:
