Accommodation in Whitehaven

Postby Lesley Glendenning on Wed May 21, 2008 8:02 pm

A friend & I are looking for somewhere to stay in whitehaven to start the C2C. The Tarn Flatt Camping Barn looks good but no blankets - so reckon it'll be too cold. Anyone know of anywhere else?

There is a Premier travel inn just on the outskirts of town, 'The Chase hotel' in town, another that I would not recommend and a few B&B's also in town that I will try to find names of. I am not sure about bike storage at any of them.

If you stay in the premier travel inn, there is a lady who lives next door to the hotel and stores bikes in her barn. She charges £1 per bike and donates all money received to charity.

I know St. Bees is a little off route, about 3 miles south of Whitehaven. But there is very good Bed & Breakfast called Stonehouse Farm and popular with Coast to Coast walkers and I've been there 4 times over the last 18 years. there are roads from St. Bees to link back onto the C2C.

There is also the Youth Hostel at Ennerdale, a bit off the C2C. But worth it for the awesome views of Pillar. Non-members welcomed.

Hi Lesley, we have just completed C2C and stayed at Stonehouse Farm in St Bees, yes it is a little off route, but still a great place to start the C2C dip the wheel in the sea then off you go, unfortunately right into a fairly steep climb but it does get you used to what to expect !!!! as for the farm its a lovely place with fantastic breakfast to set you on your way, a lovely little village with a couple of pubs and a nice restaurant (platform 19) I think it was called. hope this helps and good luck :)

Another alternative B and B for those not wanting to stay in Whitehaven is to stay at the Shepherds Arms Inn Ennerdale Bridge. Very good Les Routiers food. It's about 10 miles into the route and could fit in well for people who have to travel some distance to Whitehaven. It's also very much 'the lake district' whereas the coast is quite different.

Hi Lesley,
my friend and I completed the C2C a week ago and we spent our first night at the Tivoli guest house in Whitehaven. Very friendly, lock up garage for the bikes, smack in the middle of town & only 2 mins cycle from the start. They also had shower gel etc in the bathroom which was handy because we were travelling light.
